Bandwidth Conscious Reminders

  • Be conscious of services that upgrade online on frozen workstations
    • Firefox
    • Firefox Plugins (Forecastfox, etc)
    • Antivirus?
    • Windows Updating (Saw this a lot in the Library... pulled updates everyday)
  • Be aware of the above on non-frozen machines as well
    • Especially virus and forecastfox updating (stuff that happens frequently)

set tabs in options to force links that open a new window to "open in tab" add wikipedia as search engine option check auto update settings BE AWARE OF BANDWIDTH PLUGINS -- ForecastFox, for example. Turn update frequency way down.

12. AOS Needs new image with new Acrobat installed with the toolbar feature being disabled. They also need policy set so that they can not use the edit feature through any web browser.

13. Possibly create a 98 image for Special Ed. self-contained teachers and Speech Paths. They have several programs that are not on network and saved to c: Becky has requested that their machines not be re-imaged at this time.

win2000?

because we have lots of win2k coa's(800's), I'd like to use that where possible. to save money. same software as xp except latest sp. chris identified quicktime related file that likely would allow compass to run on 2000.

  • quicktime/compass was problem last time we tried 2000
  • sp21715 is video driver needed for 733

10. This article talks about the printer certified driver problem. Make sure that policy takes care of those popup questions. (Edit: Problem solved with 4.91 SP3 or installing the patch for SP2. SP3 is for XP/2003 only so 2000 will need SP2+patch)

  • Set printers to b/w on color drivers (force printers to print K for b/w prints, not combine CMY for b/w prints)
