What Kind of God Would You Be?

Through the study of Greek history (whether in here or in World History), you have heard various legends consisting of the many Gods and/or Goddesses of Greek mythology.

In this activity, you will be assessing your best and worst characteristics. And with these traits in mind, you will make yourself an ancient Greek God or Goddess.

Example: Zeus was the God of Thunder.

Thunder – strong and swift powerful (before the storm) brings rain and renewal brings lightning (possibly destruction)

Taking this into account, the title “God of Thunder” is very appropriate for Zeus. He was the God over all other Greek Gods. He enforced laws, justice, and morals, and he also protected his people, keeping peace amongst the heavens.

And although Zeus was a strong and fair God, he also had his pitfalls. Because Zeus was the God of Gods, he was uncontrollable. It is said that Zeus raped any woman he wanted simply because he took interest in them.

So what kind of God would you be...

First, you will be given a piece of posterboard and tape. You will be attaching this to your back. In a five minute period, you need to go to as many different people as possible. Other students will be writing descriptive words about you on on your posterboard. These words should be positive only!

After the five minute period, you will return to your seat and remove your posterboard. Start thinking about the information your classmates have shared and what you think about yourself. You will create a two paragraph (both well-developed, of course) explanation of what God or Goddess you would have been? Your explanation should include your “godly status” and how you would have helped or troubled your people.
