A Raisin in the Sun "Mini-Plays"
Imagine: You are Superman! (That would be sweet, huh?) One of your amazing super-powers is the ability to fly around the world at super-speed to reverse the course of actions that have taken place. As Superman, you have observed what happened in the lives of the Younger family. You feel it is your responsibility to change things for this family...
You and your groupmates will be creating "mini-plays" (or simply put: skits) based on the characters from A Raisin in the Sun. As a group, you will create a brand new scene for the play.
This scene must change the outcome of the play!!!
It is very important to understand how one action of one character or one minor detail can alter an entire story. I'm sure you can all think of one thing that has happened in your lives that has made a major change to either your character, financial status, social status, etc.
Requirements:
• Create a short skit of at least 2 minutes (maximum of 5 minutes) • Develop a brief oral presentation to explain how the course of events would've changed in the play if your scene had been included • Each member of your group needs to have a speaking part
Be thoughtful of your skit! Do not choose the most obvious course of change! Originality will factor into your final score.
You do not have to memorize you skit - scripts or index cards will be allowed.
Process Points:
Each day of the week an individual process grade will be taken.
10 points X 4 days = 40 points
You will be informed of each day's process points goal at the beginning of each class period.
Final Evaluation:
In place of a test, this activity will be your evaluation for A Raisin in the Sun.
You will not only be graded by me but by your peer groups as well! Your ultimate fate will rest in their evaluations of your performance and explanation.
You will be given Monday through Thursday of this week to prepare your skits and your oral presentations. We will begin presentations on Friday! If four class days of preparation is not enough, then you should arrange to meet sometime before or after school.
